- A Bodyguard Bar – providing optimum protection for the operator, preventing them from being thrown out in the event of a lateral tip over.
- Electronic Speed limiting – limits forklift speed to suit site conditions without affecting lift or lower speeds.
- Zone Speed Control – One speed for inside the warehouse, a different speed for outdoors and perhaps a creep speed for working on a dock.
- Fuel Injected Engine Technology – reduces fuel consumption and emission levels even further.
- 3 stage sequential seatbelt interlock – prevents the forklift from being used unless the seatbelt is worn.
- Sway Control System – Manufactured from compressed torsion rubber (patent pending) which responds to horizontal G forces experienced when turning by locking the rear axle ensuring all 4 wheels maintain firm contact with the road surface enhancing stability.
- 3 Way Catalytic converter – reduces harmful emissions by up to a staggering 99%.
- Mast and Tilt Lock System – detects when the operator leaves the seat with the engine running and locks the lift and tilt mechanisms preventing accidents from accidentally knocking a control lever.
- Park Brake warning Buzzer – detects when the operator leaves the seat without applying the park brake and sounds a loud warning buzzer. This prevents the forklift from “running away” and causing damage to stock or injuring work mates.
- On board impact and usage reporting system – Operated by a PIN or swipe card, this system records all actions of the forklift including operator ID, impact sensors, engine and traction hours, engine and transmission temperatures etc and remotely reports this to you via email or a web site. Prevents unauthorized use of the forklift.
- Very low operating noise level of 61.5 dB-a reduces fatigue and makes for a safer work environment.
- Tilt Leveling System – A simple press of a button brings the forks automatically to the horizontal – a great aid for the unskilled operator.
- Small Tilting Steering Wheel – reduces shoulder strain through having less turns lock to lock.
- Powertrain floating system reduces vibrations which in turn reduces fatigue and the potential for accidents.
- LPG Bottle Swing Down or Swing Out Bracket - Reduces the strain in lifting the full gas bottle on and off the forklift.
- ORS (Operator Restraint System) Seat – full suspension and hip-supports provide a secure, comfortable control centre for the operator.
- Proximity and Pedestrian Sensors – Alert the operator when a pedestrian or other forklift is within a predetermined distance.
- Transmission Interlock – prevents the operator from driving the forklift in a dangerous manner by going from forward to reverse without stopping, also prevents costly transmission repairs.

Forklifts Batteries
Forklifts need a constant supply of power to work properly. They use deep cycle industrial grade batteries that can be discharged up to 80% on a regular basis. The main chemicals used in these are Sulfuric acid and water. At full charge, its 30% acid and 70% water.
The most important component used in these batteries are thick metal plates measuring more than 1/4", which is seven times the thickness of normal automotive batteries (1/25?). Thicker plates mean longer life, as it takes longer for the acid to corrode the plates. Most industrial deep cycle batteries use Lead-Antimony plates that increase plate life and strength. These plates also result in gassing and water loss. It is important to monitor the water level on a regular basis. The acid used in these batteries is very corrosive and it is important to wear gloves while handling them.
These batteries are not 100% efficient. Stored energy is lost due to heat and chemical reactions during charging and discharging. Also the amount of electricity required to charge the batteries is always more than the amount discharged. The efficiency of a typical lead acid deep cycle battery varies between 85% and 95%.
Forklifts are used in every type of industry, as they help in saving costs and improve efficiency. The batteries used in these should be checked regularly and other guidelines should be followed to increase the life of these batteries. The life cycle of these batteries lies between 10 to 20+ years depending on usage, care and make.

September 2004 - NFC President Mark Akabori Returns To Japan
Saturday, September 25, 2004
Nissan Forklift Corporation President Mark Akabori announced September 8, 2004, his return to Japan at the end of September, to assume a new assignment. In making the announcement, Akabori stated, “It’s amazing how quickly time has passed since I assumed my responsibilities in the USA seven years ago. It has been quite a thrill to be a part of so many milestones in Nissan’s history including the introduction of the Optimum series and the celebration of the building of the 100,000th Nissan forklift in the USA. I am also very proud of the many technological enhancements we have made to the factory, such as the new welding robot processes and assembly line. Investments such as these create a manufacturing environment ready for Nissan’s future.”
Akabori went on to say,
“The year 2004 has been one of the most exciting ones in Nissan’s history with the introduction of the new Platinum series. These new and innovative forklift models have generated such great enthusiasm with our customers, demonstrating once again our ability to not only meet but exceed their expectations.”
Henry Hannan, as President of Nissan’s Dealer Advisory Group, praised Akabori for his great leadership during which time Nissan has grown and prospered. “It is always sad to see a friend leave, particularly one who has meant so much to us as Nissan dealers. During his term,” Henry stated, “Mark always had time to listen to us with our ideas and concerns, allowing us to be a part of Nissan’s decision-making process. Mark did an outstanding job and will be missed by us as a leader and friend.” Hannan is the General Manager of M & L Industries, Nissan’s dealership headquartered in Houma, Louisiana.
Mr. Takanobu “Tak” Tokugawa has been named Akabori’s successor and will assume the position of President of Nissan Forklift Corporation, on October 1, 2004.
